The stove dries the paintings, makes inks, warms the atelier, bakes bread and heats bath water. Those fires make the charcoal that is used in almost all the drawings. I select the darkest charcoal, for very intense black and grind it in the mortar very fine, yielding textured blues.

I make ink based on ancient tradition and following my intuition. It brings me to a variety of interesting inks and paints often with inherent textures.

I work with a limited amount of (light fast) inks to get to know their often stubborn characters.

I have come to a selection of inks that communicate well with each other, yielding interesting blends, gradients, shades and textures.

The inks are alive while in their fluid form, before drawing I rework them by grinding and sampling until they are vibrant and refined.

Due to their natural body, these drawings carry a natural energy, that was born in the landscape itself.

Iron rich mud gathered on the little creek in the "Red bay" of the lake. The red stones in this bay are talking about a precious environment. Along the little creek mud has sedimented with a high concentration of iron. Its consistency is very close to paint already. I grind it further in the mortar and sample it until refined and interestingly textured.

The ink wash drawings are based on the principles of nature.

The elements - water, air, fire and earth -

are expressed in their endless varieties.

The drawings focus on their connections,

on the expression of natural rhythm and harmony

on the movement of water, air,...

on the multitude of phenomenons shaping a landscape

(such as a vast lake),

They talk about the wild places

where life itself creates melody, rhyme and symbols.

The landscapes are made in northern Sweden

where I am living in between the lake and the stream

surrounded by vast forest, marshes, hills and mountains

in solitude immersed in nature,

I am living on the rhythm of nature

drinking from its sights and experiences

transforming those into the work.

Here the seasons are extreme.

Summer baths in endless light, abundant lush green,

blossoming, streaming waters.

Winters offer varieties of dimmed light, wonderous colours,

ice and snow.
